bulbs are powered by three 400-watt Electronic IceCap ballast.
cOOLING: Custom-designed 1-horsepower chiller
WATER MOVEMEN T: A pair of Reeflow Dart pumps operating through
a pair of closed-loop systems. For additional flow, five Ecotech Marine Vortech MP40w pumps with a flow rate capable of 3,200 gph
WATER MANAGEMEN T: A custom-made protein skimmer designed by
Brian Fergusson operates with a Bubble King 2000 pump. A Sanjay
DIY reverse-flow calcium reactor operates from a split in the manifold system. A pair of Deltec fluidized FR509 media reactors, one
holding phosphate-removing media and the other holding carbon
MONI TORING & REGULATING: Neptune Aquacontroller keeps a watchful
eye. Calcium 350–420; Alkalinity 8–12 dKH; Magnesium 1,200–
1,350; Temperature 77–80°F; Nitrate 0.2; pH 8. 1–8. 3; specific gravity 1.025
MINERALS, MAINTENANcE: A 75-gallon water change is performed at
least once a month. One of the media reactors holds 400 grams of
Warner Marine Phosar HC and is replaced every month. The other
reactor uses 2 cups of ROX carbon and is changed out every two to
three weeks. Glass panels are cleaned once a week. The skimmer’s
waste container is cleaned once a week.
