Mangrove forests are tidal woodlands that border
tropical coasts and are home to a multitude of unusual
life forms. The animals and plants that live there are
adapted to the extreme environmental conditions of a
habitat that is subject to the tides. Mangrove forests oc-
cupy an area of around 15 million hectares ( 37 million
